Kyrgyzstan to Spend $20 Million on Hydropowered Crypto Mine
The President of Kyrgyz Republic – Sadyr Japarov – has approved an investment of $20 million at the Kambar-Ata-2 Hydro Power Plant to build a cryptocurrency mining farm that can use up the excess energy produced by the plant each year.
Hydro Power Plant Details
The hydro power plant produces 120 MW of electricity annually, out of which only 90 MW is used while the remaining 30 MW is lost in vain. This means that over $37 million is wasted each year due to this flaw in production.
Crypto Mining Farm Switches Off During Winter
In order to make use of this excess energy, President Japarov has allowed for construction of a crypto mining facility at the power plant that can make use of this extra electricity and provide some benefit to the energy system. However, it should be noted that during winter when the productivity rate of the power plant drops, this crypto mining farm will have to shut down its operations temporarily until summer arrives again.
